For the Love of Dog is your partner in building the bond you’ve always wanted with your dog. Whether you have a new puppy finding its footing or an adult dog with a few habits to work on, our mission is simple: keep companion animals in loving homes and out of shelters — through patient, effective training. From group classes and AKC certification programs to one-on-one sessions in your own home, we offer flexible options designed to teach you how to communicate with your dog so the two of you can thrive together.

Donation Story

Every training class you book gives back to the animals and community we love. Proceeds from For the Love of Dog are donated to four organizations doing meaningful work close to home: Franklin County Animal Harbor, a limited-admission shelter in Winchester working to save lives, promote animal welfare, and keep companion animals out of the county shelter system; Marion Animal Resource Connection (MARC), a Sequatchie-based nonprofit promoting compassion for animals through affordable spay/neuter services, foster care, and community education in Marion County; R.U.F.F. (Redemption Underdog Freedom Fund), a Coffee County organization rooting for the underdog by helping cover the costs of spay/neuter surgeries, emergency vet care, and transportation for local companion animals; and Good Samaritan Ministries of Franklin County, a neighbor-helping-neighbor ministry providing emergency food, clothing, and utility assistance to people in need right here in our community. When you invest in training, you’re investing in something much bigger.

Meet Skip Nielsen, Professional Dog Trainer

I’m Skip Nielsen, a professional dog trainer with experience working with all kinds of dogs and backgrounds — rescues, breeder and pet store purchases, purebreds, mutts, large, and small. I am a graduate of Penn Foster College with a certificate in Dog Training and Education.
I’m the proud dog dad of Molly, a lab mix rescued from a roadside ditch, and Jackie, a boxer mix from Animal Harbor.
Recently I’ve been focusing on shelter dogs. I train at both Animal Harbor and Marion Animal Resource Connection (MARC), where I work with dogs on basic obedience and with people who want to learn how to train their dogs.
A little more about me: I hold an M.S.Ed. in Education with an emphasis in adult education and have nearly 30 years of experience training Sailors in the U.S. Navy. I’m also a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT).
What you’ll take away from our lessons is the ability to train your dog to be a better-behaved companion — and the confidence to keep working with them long after our sessions end. I will train you how to train your dog.
I’m excited to help you and your fur baby reach your goals.
